Velo opened in July 2007 in what was formally a bike shop (see what we did with the name?). It was our first ‘Lounge’ to open outside of Bristol and is set over two floors with the trading on ground floor with ladies and disabled toilets to the rear. To the lower ground floor are the kitchen, storage and gents toilets.
Oldfield Park in Bath is an area popular with young professionals, families, and students and is made up of rows of Victorian terraces. It’s basically where most of the people in Bath who don’t live in Crescents or Circus’s live!
It took three years from identifying a site on Moorland Road to opening Velo. There were complications with planning, which was refused at committee but overturned on appeal. The lease was a very complex issue and, had it not been for Britannia buying out Bristol & West, the deal would have fallen flat on its face.
The floor in the kitchen located on the lower ground floor was lowered by 75cm to allow for a commercial kitchen installation.
