Alto opened in April 2009 in what used to be a Chinese Restaurant called Le Shanghai.
Alto's layout is spookily similar to a slightly larger version of Tinto with a large, bright open-plan layout. It’s located on Church Street, which is the main shopping street in Caversham 'village'.
On the other side of the Thames to Reading, Caversham has a very strong, unique and independent identity to the rest of the city. In fact, it used to be in Oxfordshire before it was annexed to Reading in the early C20th.
Alto was named after the car in front of us in a traffic jam when we happened to be talking about names. Not original, we know, but we like it.
